Around Chattanooga a lot of yards are basically hillsides, and a retaining wall is often the only way to get flat, usable ground out of one. We build new retaining walls and replace ones that are leaning or falling apart. Every wall gets a solid base, backfill and drainage behind the block, because water pressure is what pushes most walls over.

How we build a wall
We look at the slope, where the water goes and how tall the wall needs to be, then price it.
We dig out, cut the bench into the hill and remove any old wall that's failing.
We set a compacted base, build level courses and backfill with drainage stone and pipe.
We cap the wall, grade behind it and finish the area with sod, beds or stone.

Can you replace a wall that's leaning or falling apart?
Yes. Tearing out and rebuilding failing walls is a big part of what we do. We'll figure out why the old one failed, usually drainage, so the new wall doesn't end up the same way.
Why do retaining walls fail?
Almost always water. When there's no drainage stone and pipe behind a wall, water builds up in the soil and pushes against it until it leans or cracks. That's why drainage goes in behind every wall we build.
How tall can the wall be?
It depends on the slope and what sits above the wall, like a driveway, a patio or just lawn. We'll look at the site and recommend a height at the estimate rather than guess over the phone.
