Pool areas are tough to maintain. Between the constant foot traffic, moisture, and the way plants grow differently so close to water, things can get out of hand fast. That was exactly the situation here.

We came in and got the beds cleaned up, laid fresh pine straw throughout the planting areas, and made sure everything was well-defined around the pool edge. The fan palms and smaller shrubs needed space to breathe - and with a clean layer of pine straw keeping the ground tidy, the whole backyard reads completely differently now.

Pine straw is actually one of the better mulch choices for a setup like this. It locks into place well, drains quickly, and it doesn't float around when water splashes out of the pool. For properties around Hixson with a mix of trees and ornamental plants, it also just looks right at home.

The mix of fan palms, low golden shrubs, and the natural pine canopy in the background gives this yard a layered, finished feel without it looking overdone. That balance is something we're always thinking about - you want the landscaping to frame the pool, not compete with it.

Getting the details right around a pool takes a little more care than a standard bed cleanup. Edges matter. Mulch depth matters. Plant spacing matters. We take that seriously on every job, whether it's a full install or a seasonal refresh like this one.
